How We Reimagined a 16th‑Century Barn for Modern Family Life
A look inside Ian and Kelsey’s recently completed home: a 16th‑century barn that’s been reconfigured and extended to better support the way they live today.
Their brief centred on creating lighter, more connected family spaces. We opened up the ground floor, relocated the kitchen, introduced a snug/office, and added a new sunroom that links directly to the garden.
Upstairs, we reshaped the layout to form a new main bedroom suite, converted the workshop above the garage into an additional bedroom and ensuite, and improved circulation between the two wings.
Throughout, the house was sensitively modernised with new timber windows and the careful removal of outdated features.
The glazed extension now brings a crisp, contemporary contrast to the historic barn, with a level threshold and flat roof that allows the living spaces to open fully to the garden. Ian and Kelsey now have a home that feels brighter, more connected and truly tailored to their family life.
