The Lookout
This contemporary, low-lying replacement house is carefully embedded within the protected landscape of the Gower Peninsula. Much of its mass is concealed below ground, allowing the building to sit quietly within the rolling terrain. From the approach, it appears modest, with a green roof and earth-toned materials blending into the surrounding heath and coastal flora.
Upstairs, the house opens dramatically to the horizon, where expansive glazing frames panoramic coastal views and fills the interiors with natural light. The upper level is designed for openness and flow, with minimal partitions and a calm palette inspired by sand, sea, and sky. Dry-stone walls bring order to the steep site, softened over time by planting that gradually conceals their presence. The Cabin is designed as an nZEB, producing as much energy annually as it consumes.
