Heat pumps operate by absorbing latent heat of evaporation at low pressure and temperature then emmitting latent heat of condensation at high pressure and temperature. Ground Source Heat Pumps are efficient and for every unit of electricity they use, they produce 4, 5 or 6 tmes the number of units of heat. As well as central heating, the heat pumps can be used to heat domestic hot water and using peak cheap electricity are very cost effective.
